A fine Charles I carved oak coffer, of very sleek proportions, with a four-panel front carved with large rosettes of great quality, surrounded by quartered ones in the corners, below a fluted frieze which continues around the sides. The four-panel lid has the unusual feature of having mitred corners, is secured by original iron loop hinges and the lock has its original iron escutcheon. The whole piece is of superb colour and patination, Shropshire, circa 1630.
